Cake it Pretty: TUTORIAL - Alice in Wonderland Edible Cupcake Toppers

Had a really busy, but very productive weekend preparing and shooting for the upcoming launch of our Magazine Fall Issue!! Soo excited, and think this issue is gonna rock! :D

But today I'm making an exception and coming out of my mini-blog break because I have a really stunning tutorial to share, by Marda from Belle Cake Topper and Mould! You know Marda, our blog contributor and "Cake it Pretty" doyenne, who also happens to be this week's fabulous giveaway sponsor?!! :)

What we'll need:

* fondant

* food coloring paste: blue, skin color, black

* cocktail stick

* paintbrush

* butter cream

* cupcake

How to make them:

1. cover cupcake with butter cream

2. make blue fondant ball

3. push one side of ball

4. make skirt shape

5. cut white fondant with circle cutter cookies

6. push outline of circle with finger to make frill

7. attach to the skirt with water

8. pin cocktail stick to the bottom of the skirt

9. pin to the cupcake

10. roll fondant skin color to make legs

12. make foot

13. with black foot color paint the shoes

14. attach with water to the inside of the skirt

Belted Kingfisher: Finally

KingfisherWe worried that when the lake was drained this fall and winter, the birds that eat the fish from the lake would go away. They lake was filled in the late spring and these birds are returning. There are fewer cormorants, herons and kingfishers this year, but at least one and possibly two kingfishers have returned. The kingfisher is the hardest to photograph because he rarely sits still.
